We Are The Dead

1984

Under a spreading chestnut tree, I saw you, and you saw me. It’s raining. Sometimes snowing. These days, they sway like dying trees. Love in the burning embers of a fire. Emotion, so warm against pale skin. The air smells of insects. It tastes of leaves and dying dreams. The fall of another year, but the beginning of a journey into the unknown. The darkened layers of my mind. The pleasures of the damned, so obscure and dangerous. No time for plans. No need for those who don’t believe. Just those who want to see all that remains hidden. Reflections in pools of oil. Images in the windows of abandoned buildings. Eyes across a roomful of bland faces. The gaze of two souls, begging to sense release. Corrupt and fucked to the core. Cheating hearts, reaching out for belief. Draw a line in the sand, and forget all those useless ghosts. Moving through the forest, we dance with the animals and hold hands like lovers. We rise, and soon we are everywhere. Smoke a cigarette. Take a bottle of beer in hand, and feel like a king. Be sweet and gentle. Be kind and nice. Fuck like you mean it. Suck on ripe breasts, and get closer to the source of where we all belong. Soft machines. Preachers and poets. Flashing lights. Fingers searching for truth. Clothes of sand. Madness saved me. Nature failed me. We exist in all moments in time. We can do, whatever we want to. The gaze of two lives entwined in a fraction of a second. Two minds, searching for the secrets that others will never know. Stay still, and stay silent. Become ageless statues. Become like the stars in the sky. Timeless, and beautiful beyond words. The wind that shakes the barley. Bound by beating hearts. The future is ours. We are the dead. We are the cure to the horrors of modern life. Our loveΒ is the key to the door. To a way of being, outside of society. Outside, of tepid safety. We are the dead. And we are everywhere.
