The Weight of Our Love

chandelier-1081740_1280

As chandeliers fall in slow motion and fragments of glass shatter around us, I wish only to be the architect of your smile. As the days break into pieces until they disappear forever, I want to take your hand and lead you somewhere far out of harms way. Let me draw a line in the sand; let me close your eyes and imagine a doorway made of light at the foot of your bed. You spin so wild, like an ice skater at the edge of the world without an ounce of fear in your heart. Raising your face to the clouds, you blow out a lungful of air that turns to snow as I do my best to capture your beauty with my camera. We eat stars out of boredom. We fuck to the sounds of war, and as all the towns and cities we once walked through burn to the ground, we roll upon the deadened leaves of our past and kiss without fear of the future. Sometimes, though, when I think about every memory that drifts further into the abyss, it makes me feel so weak. It breaks me down into half a man because there’s so much beauty I’ve witnessed that’s now slipping through my fingers. The closer to death I crawl, the more I lose. Your love is an ocean I wish to swim in until the last atoms of the universe separate and all that once was becomes nothing. Running through the traffic as buildings collapse and planes fall from the sky, we laugh while others scream. In our veins and in our throats, the magic keeps pumping until in a state of delirium we levitate above their heads. We believe in what can’t be seen, and we feel the love of dreams. Trees and memories of embraces as we throw our arms wide to the howling winds on endless Thursday nights. From bridges to abandoned supermarkets; from parks to train stations where carriages rise into the air before bursting into flames. Making our way through the debris, the future calls our names, but we just turn our backs instead. Taking a photo of your face, I slide my fingers behind your head and bring your lips to mine. As the world crumbles, the taste of your mouth is the only thing that matters- the warmth of your body, of your soul. They outweigh everything.
