scrape ’em off

the world turns and stars burn

bodies pulsate and ooze sex then fade away like pretty much everything else

there’s anger and rebellion

a spark that ignites lives

ignites minds

and then comes safety and vulgar

where people speak but say nothing

doing stuff but it’s just stuff and it holds no meaning

but they worship it

as if it were

the shit

as you grow older

only those who are mad are worth listening to

only those outside of society know the reasons why

which is why they’re outside

so seek them out, let go of everyone else

scrape ’em off

close your eyes and fall through the floor

hold your breath, raise a drink

and remember who you’re supposed to

  1. I don’t know why passion burns out the quickest. It does seem to, though. Probably the most challenging obstacle in a life is remaining true to oneself in spite of the experiential mass of disillusionment and grief. Here’s to the ones who keep on.

Also, I might steal “vulgar respectability.” Rolls out of the mouth nicely.

    • Yes, here’s to those that keep going.

It’s difficult to keep the fires burning at times, but we owe it to ourselves to make sure they never do.

And I agree, ‘vulgar respectability’ rolls off the tongue just right.

  2. You’ve beautifully restated a truth anciently known.

Tao Te Ching – Lao Tzu – chapter 20

Give up learning, and put an end to your troubles.

Is there a difference between yes and no?
Is there a difference between good and evil?
Must I fear what others fear? What nonsence!
Other people are contented, enjoying the sacrificial feast of the ox.
In spring some go to the park, and climb the terrace,
But I alone am drifting not knowing where I am.
Like a new-born babe before it learns to smile,
I am alone, without a place to go.

Other have more than they need, but I alone have nothing.
I am a fool. Oh, yes! I am confused.
Other men are clear and bright,
But I alone am dim and weak.
Other men are sharp and clever,
But I alone am dull and stupid.
Oh, I drift like the waves of the sea.
Without direction, like the restless wind.

    Everyone else is busy,
But I alone am aimless and depressed.
    I am different.
I am nourished by the great mother.
