Old corner shops and the distance between lovers who hate and adore each other in the same breath. Old memories and still burning hearts that flicker like streetlights down roads that have no end. If you stop and close your eyes, you’ll find that everything you need is inside. In the stillness of your retreat, you’ll find meaning and even if the meaning is useless, it is what it is, and what it is, is all we will ever need. In the silence that comes from stepping aside, everything that once seemed so senseless will make sense, and the strangeness of living you once feared more than death will become your mantra. Those pages of unwritten journals, and those photos you keep hidden because to look at them hurts, they speak the same as they always have done, and what they speak is what you need to hear. The scars on your flesh, and the thoughts that linger each night before bed, they are not weakness, and nor are they sin. What they are is what they are, and what they are is a beautiful truth, the kind that ignites minds in no other way. Those old corner shops, they welcome us like how they did back when we were young and our livers were in better shape. Those old memories, they dance and kiss our throats and pinch our flesh and when we’re drunk from knocking back too much cheap white wine, they take off our clothes and serenade our naked bodies and before we know it, it’s morning and here comes a hangover to remind us of just how fragile we are. But we wouldn’t have it any other way. No, this mess is what makes us smile like mischievous cats. Cats on the prowl for danger caring little for the consequences of their actions. If you need to, just hang back and watch the world go by. Be a cat. Be what you need to be, and make no apologies. Elevate yourself to a higher state and drink a few bottles of that cheap wine while you’re at it. Maybe have a cigarette too, and as you kick your feet and flick ash on the heads of the dim ones below, bare those teeth and give the finger to no one in particular, because this is how we roll.

Thank you for this… x
You’re very welcome, my dear friend x
it’s easy to be the cat. sometimes i want to be. i like easy. but im also terrified of letting life slip by without giving anyone the finger, and even i feel confident i try and speak up. sometimes it makes me feel better. other times it makes my stomach turn and i go back to being the cat. life is hard…. dig the work, gave me these thoughts, just wanted to share i guess
fuck… when** i feel confident
Thank you, my friend.
The struggle can do your head in, and yet it can also make it flower with the strangest and most compelling of visions. Sometimes the absurdity of it is laughable, but all we can do is keep doing what we do. That way we’ll never lose.
right on. just keep at it.
“No, this mess is what makes us smile like mischievous cats.” Love the mental image this creates.
Thank you, Christine x

At times, Stephen writes as if he’s delved right into my mind, or my soul – I can’t decide which? But I appreciate him more than he realises.

Thank you ever so much, Rachel! ❤
We all have the capabilities, to find that place of peace and quiet inside each of us, it’s just, sometimes we get too affected by all the raucous outside that, it’s, too hard to listen to our hearts…
That is indeed very true. And there are many who choose not to listen to their hearts, which is even worse.
Random memories in your own inimitable style
Thank you my friend. I’m glad you think so!
