Spectral Guts

In one breath I was floating with a billion stars, and then I saw they weren’t stars at all but glowing, pulsating orbs. Watching as they moved as if at random, I felt myself fading away only to be reborn, for where there had once been human flesh and the orange glow of fox fur, there was now the crackle and fizz of electricity. Spinning among the orbs that in turn spun about me, I’d never been as far removed from the life I had once known, and yet here, in this place, there was only the blissful energy of my strange soul, free of the chains placed upon it by a world now left behind. Scared of what might become of me yet excited of what lie ahead, my new form slipped this way and that, yet before I had a chance to understand the nature of my naked self, her voice tore through me like it had done so many times in our previous lives. It was a knife into my spectral guts and a mouth upon my throat and searching the sea of souls, I caught sight of two flashes of light dancing on the horizon with the luminosity of a solar flare. To them I moved, as drunk and as giddy as a fool.
