Buried in the dirt and hiding from the light. She’s got a vortex within her chest, yet don’t tell her father. The complex nature of my fears. The hidden depth of my tears. Take me by the hand, and lead me beneath the bridge with no name. Place your signature upon my face. Scar me with all that you have. Drink to remember. Drink to forget. Alive despite the worst odds. Still breathing despite a lifetime of self loathing. My words will set me free. They’ll make up for all the years spent doing nothing other than wishing to not exist. It’s in the way we dance beneath a sinking sun. It’s in the way we undress so ashamed of our messed up beauty. Skin so pale, eyes lined with regret. Scars and cigarette burns on skinny wrists. The haunted hearts of so many who fell whilst we lucked out and survived by simply existing. Take those dead flowers, and throw them out the window. Burn all those bridges, and bathe in the light that shines from the rising flames. Wrap yourself around worthless loss. Smile as everything falls apart. Take my hand, and follow me to a place they’ll never think of looking. American princess. English rose. Unshaven monster drunk on love and warm beer. Desperate wonder in lonely words. Retrace those steps, and lose yourself in a melancholy so sweet. Autumn leaves falling like rain. Impulse over intelligence, or maybe it’s the other way around. Indian summers unbroken. Let’s leave them behind. Let’s disappear in a world of make believe as the towns and cities crumble just like the rest. Self pity so simple. Heartache so mild as we keep it all inside. Be genuine. Know what there is to know, and piss on the rest. So many lost souls drifting like scattered thoughts, so many lovers left hurting because of this mess of a man. A body is just a body, but a soul is so much more. Everlasting like sorrow. As truthful as an obscure kiss by the gates of a forgotten cemetery. A darkened sky. A misplaced truth. This is you. Always and never on my mind. Forever somewhere else.
